  • The III Congress of Young Scientists opened in Russia on the federal territory of Sirius

 

The Congress is a key event of the Decade of Science and Technology, announced by Vladimir Putin’s decree. This is the largest platform for dialogue between science, economics and government. The Congress will work for three days from November 28 to 30 and will host several thousand participants from 25 countries.

  • In 2024, Russia will conduct experiments in South Korea and China with material for an International Experimental Thermonuclear reactor (ITER)

 

This was announced by the director of the ITER project center (included in Rosatom) Anatoly Krasilnikov. “All partners are interested in us making samples and coming to them and testing them ourselves. We will not give anything to anyone, but we can start a joint research and development program,” he said.

  • Russian law enforcement bodies opposed the legalization of white hats working on Bug Bounty programs

 

The legalization of “white hats hackers” is jointly opposed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia, as well as the Investigative Committee. All of them claim that no amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation that could legalize ethical hackers need to be made. Earlier, the Ministry of Digital Development began to promote the idea of legalizing such specialists: it offered financial support to ethical hackers, and in July 2022 it received a proposal for their legalization.

  • A tiny “friend-foe” system for UAVs has been created in Russia

 

The holding company “Roselectronics” of the Rostec State Corporation has introduced a new small-sized radar transponder. The device weighs no more than 150 g and can be used to identify drones in the “friend-foe” system.

  • The share of the state in the financing of Russian science is growing, business is falling

 

The costs of university science in the Russian Federation in 2022 amounted to 155 billion rubles, having increased by 1% in constant prices over the year, the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge of the Higher School of Economics calculated. The main source of financing remains state funds — its share has increased by 4.1% to 60%, while the contribution of business has decreased by 3,5% to 27%. This is a consequence of the state’s interest in the commercialization of scientific research.
