1. Scientists from the Ural Federal and Northern Technical Universities(Kirkuk, Iraq) have created a high-performance plate solar water distiller. Their research has shown that the thinner the water layer is, the faster it heats up and evaporates. According to this finding, the rotating cylinder inside the tank captures water in the form of a very thin film. In this form, the water evaporates in a matter of seconds, so both of the area and the evaporation rate have radically increased.

2. On 19 February, the ceremony of signing the Memorandum of Understanding between the Russian Academy of Sciences and the German National Academy of Sciences ‘Leopoldina’ took place. The document will be valid for five years. It is planned that the parties will develop work in the following main areas: exchange of scientific information and publications, participation in joint scientific events, organization of bilateral seminars, symposia, conferences and so on.

3. From March 1 to April 25, the third All-Russian festival on artificial intelligence and programming RuCode Festival will take place. It will be held by leading Russian universities, public organizations, the IT-park of Uzbekistan in partnership with the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. The event will be held in a mixed format, participation is free, registration is available on the official website, according to the organizing committee of the festival

4. Scientists of the Samara National Research University named after S.P. Korolev and the Russian-Armenian University in Yerevan presented the concept of ‘smart vision’ for satellites and drones. The press service of the university said that in the future, the development will help introduce hyperspectral technologies in various areas. They have developed a universal software package that will analyze images obtained during observations. According to the idea, the system should work autonomously, without human assistance, ground computer systems, neural networks and data.

5. Scientists from the Research Institute of Medical Genetics of the Tomsk National Research Center found out that in embryos with the wrong number of chromosomes, the activity of the LINE-1 retrotransposon is suppressed. This mechanism can serve as a kind of fuse, that protects the mother from the birth of a child with genetic disorders incompatible with life.
