1. Scientists from the Tomsk Polytechnic University and the University of Aix-Marseille have studied the disintegration of therapeutic agents. The main idea of the scientists is to create a molecule that is safe for cells, which decomposes under the action of light of a certain wavelength to form verdazyl and hydrocarbon radicals. The latter should lead to cell death in a limited area, for example, malignant cells.

2. Scientists from the Federal Research Center of ICG SB RAS, Novosibirsk State University have identified two fragments of noncoding DNA responsible for the response to the appearance of the hormone auxin in cells and tissues. Colleagues of Russian researchers from Holland and Spain have experimentally confirmed that these DNA regions do indeed play an important role in regulating the response to the main plant hormone.

3. In 2021, 486.1 billion rubles will be allocated for research and development of civilian purposes. This is 6.3% (or 32.8 billion rubles) less than it was planned at the end of 2019 when the previous budget was approved. For 2022, it is planned to reduce allocations for civil research and development by 4.8% relative to pre-crisis designs, to 514.4 billion rubles.

4. Physicists from Skoltech, along with colleagues from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MTI), have shown that a simple bending of diamond nano-needles can transform a diamond from an electrical insulator into a metal conductor at room temperature. This will allow in the future to achieve a controlled adjustment of the conductive properties-from insulating through semiconductor to highly conductive, or metallic, without degrading the quality of the diamond material.

5. Perm Polytechnic scientists have developed a "navigator" for drilling oil wells. The system based on fiber optic gyroscopes will automatically control the direction of drilling without stopping the work and will increase its accuracy. The technology will significantly reduce the cost of equipment for well construction. It has no analogues in Russia and in the world.
