1. Scientists of NUST "MISiS", Baltic Federal University, RCTU and the Czech Academy of Sciences found that iron oxide nanoparticles of a certain size and shape, often used in biomedicine, cause autophagy and death of liver cells due to the destruction of lysosome membranes. Researchers have experimentally found that hepatocyte viability, indeed, decreased depending on the increase in the concentration of nanoparticle cubes in the organ.

2. Russian researchers have found how increasing pressure in a plasma-chemical reactor affects the copper oxide nanoparticles that are produced in it. When the authors increased the pressure to 0.02 atmospheres, the sizes of copper nanoparticles slightly decreased to the range from 15 to 45 nanometers. In this case, the physical properties of copper oxide have changed significantly. It acquired magnetic hardness, that is, it retained its magnetization for a long time.

3. Scientists at the North Caucasus Federal University were able to synthesize derivatives of oxyindole, effective in the fight against tuberculosis, with a new method. The reaction proceeds faster, gives a greater yield of substance, while more accessible reagents are used. They took more affordable starting materials, mixed them and launched an interesting cascade transformation. Due to the fact that the synthesis occurs in one stage by a cascade reaction, they could obtain these substances much faster and in much larger quantities. Thanks to this approach, the production of the compound becomes less costly and more environmentally friendly.

4. VIII International Scientific and Technical Conference "Information Technologies in Science, Education and Production“ will be held on September 23-25, 2020 in Belgorod. 5. The first General meeting of members of the Russian Academy of Sciences in a remote format was held. The central item on the agenda was a speech by the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Alexander Sergeyev, who spoke about the most significant successes of scientists and the main results of the Academy’s work last year, as well as plans to strengthen its positions and gain new frontiers. The Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov became an honored guest of the online forum, noting that he is expecting a “constructive and trusting dialogue” between his department and the RAS.
