1. Employees of the V.A. Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology of the Russian Academy of Sciences have discovered a new reaction that allows to synthesize important fragments for pharmacological design. The process is called «hydration». Among the products there are both completely new and promising compounds as well as those that are already used in medical chemistry. The results of the study were published in the journal “Green Chemistry”.



2. Thirty six winners of the seventh megagrant competition which was held as a part of the national project «Science» were announced by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. The competition involves federal funding for research in 2019 in the amount of 3 billion rubles. The maximum grant amount is 90 million rubles, the minium – 44 million rubles. The competition received 433 applications from 52 regions of Russia this year. The leading scientists from 46 countries of the world in cooperation with 206 organizations of Russia, among which 110 universities and 65 scientific organization took part in the competition.



3. The Institute of Nuclear Physics named after G.I.Budker of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences will manufacture more than a hundred vacuum tanks for the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR, Germany). The contract value is 10 million Euro. The Facility for Antirpton and Iorn Research is the largest accelerator complex for the study of modern nuclear and subnuclear physics, created on the basis of the Helmholtz Center for the Study of Heavy Ions (Darmstadt). The project cost is about three billion euros, about 20% of all equipment is produced in Russia. The beginning of the experiments at the FAIR is planned for the early 2020s, reaching the project capacity – in 2025. The project involves 17 countries. The total contracts are 70 million Euro.



4. A flight version of the Russian middle-class carrier rocket on methane will be possible to create by the end of 2024 and the first launch can be completed in 2025. The cost of manufacturing of a new methane-powered launch vehicle will be about 900 million rubles.



5. Employees of the Tomsk Institute of Atmospheric Optics named after V.E. Zuev of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences will start to study the climate of the Arctic zone of Russia in 2020. The scientists will measure the amount of methane and other greenhouse gas emissions due to the thawing permafrost in the Arctic shelf. A grant of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation in the amount of 80 million rubles was received for the two-year research.
