1. The third annual forum “Digital Science – World Trends and “Big Data” in the Russian Context” was held in Moscow on October 31, 2019. The forum has been organized by the company “Digital Science Russia and the CIS” with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Russian Scientific Fund and the Project Office 5-100. The participants discussed how digital tools help to make fast and high-quality management decisions and accelerate the development of world science.

2. Astrophysicists from the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the Pulkovo Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences have discovered a system with an unusual neutron star whose magnetic field is detected only when the star rotates towards the observer in a certain way. Before this discovery was made, only two types of systems were known – one type where the magnetic field is constantly detected in radiation from a star, and another type where it is not detected at all. Meanwhile, the system that is being studied by scientists opens the «window» to the internal structure of the magnetic field of a neutron star only at a certain phase of rotation. The results are published in «The Astrophysical Journal Letters»

3. Researches have found how ultra short pulsed radiation of new laser electron accelerators affects the living cells. Compared to x-ray radiation, it mainly causes death of the cell, but not disruption in the transmission of hereditary information. It means that irradiated cancer cells will not acquire new mutations that can make them more dangerous, while the normal ones around them will not be replaced. This new knowledge will help to bring nearer the moment when such devices will be actively used in medicine and biology as a more effective replacement for x-ray and traditional particle accelerators. But the scientists need to find out all their properties before applying. The work was published in the «International Journal of Molecular Sciences».

4. The forum “Global Technology Leadership” organized by the RVC and the National Technology Initiative Platform with the support of the Russian Government will be held in Sochi during the period December 5-7. More than 1000 participants including technological entrepreneurs, investors, representatives of large business, universities, scientific organizations and government bodies are expected to take part in the forum.

5. Russian scientists aided by their colleagues from the United States synthesized and researched a new type of superconductors from opals and tin which easily switches from a superconducting state to an ordinary state and vice versa. Due to this ability compounds can be used as particle detectors in accelerators or used in low-frequency radio communication devises, for example, for communication under water. The results are published in the journal “Superconductor Science and Technology”.
