1. Scientists at Tomsk Polytechnic University in collaboration with researches from the University of Montana (USA) proposed a new promising material for regenerative medicine (restoration of damaged tissues and blood vessels). It is a three-dimensional frame made of biodegradable material filled with special inhibitors, which were also obtained at the Tomsk Polytechnic University. They “turn off” the work of enzymes responsible for the inflammation reaction that occurs in immune cells in response to exogenous irritant. The proposed solution is a simpler way to control the immune response compared to existing ones. The latest research results are published in the journal ACS Biomaterials Science&Engineering.

2. Mr. Nikolay Ryzhkov, the member of the Federation Council Committee on Federal structure, regional policy, local self-government and the Affairs of the North called for the involvement of the Russian Academy of Science in the organization of scientific and educational centres. He is convinced that academic science should not be ignored when creating scientific and educational centres in the regions.

3. Grand opening of the construction of a high-tech catalyst production took place in the Omsk Oil Refinery on October 24. The capacity of the enterprise will fully satisfy the needs of the Russian oil refining industry with a wide range of the most advanced catalysts.

4. A composition and method for applying a protective coating on subsea acoustic beacons included in the system of flight data recorders (so-called «black boxes») of aircrafts has been developed in the Institute of Mechanical Engineering Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The obtained method increases the survivability of lighthouses in seawater by more than two times in comparison with the best foreign counterparts.

5. Small satellite “Mir”, developed by the company “Information Satellite Systems” completed its work in the orbit after working six times longer than estimated terms. The apparatus performed over 20 experiments.
