5. Russian physicists have developed a method of radically narrowing the emission spectrum of conventional diode lasers, known from laser pointers. This will allow to use them instead of expensive and complex single-frequency laser devices, as well as to create compact chemical analyzers that can fit in a smartphone, cheap lidars, and many other areas.
